Tropas Libre refers to the confederation of libertarian city-state of Randia and its military forces keeping its order. Tropas Libre is the predominant political and military force of Randia, although there are independent city-states such as Celera and New Antwerp.

History[]

Culture[]

Tropas Libre, being a right-libertarian faction, is in a sense a faction that could be oversimplified as a futuristic wild west. While the arm of the law enforcement has grown stronger and thus major cities are stable, the same cannot be said of smaller towns and the wastelands between the major cities. Because of the Tropas Libre's uncaring attitude towards the people, the downtrodden do everything to survive. It was under this atmosphere that some of the Tropas Libre's military tendencies took shape: the Dumper being particularly heavily armored for a mining unit as a mean to protect itself from raiders, and the wide hostile landscape giving birth to the Minuteman which are while lightly armored rugged enough to operate on the arid dunes of Randia.

While the elites of Tropas Libre often are either entrepreneurs or sponsored by one, there is a class conflict between the haves and the have nots as seen with the development of Dumpers influenced by raiding parties. With that said, more politically shrewd elements of Tropas Libre saw this as an opportunity, as the raiders would no doubt be experienced. This created a factional struggle in the Tropas Libre: the traditionalists who sided with big businesses and the populists. Despite the shortcoming of the populists, the rise of populists have created an opportunity for the downtrodden as well: it was the populists who brought forth the idea which eventually became the Inventors' Workshop, and the gun-toting culture of Tropas Libre as well as the handiness of the Randian people led to all sorts of innovations.

Oikonomia[]

Not surprisingly, the vast majority of the Tropas Libre's distinct city-states employ a laissez-faire approach, choosing minimal government action in economics. This results in a very quick stratification of society, and the successful are able to reap much to the point where almost all of the economic gains are allocated to them. Collaboratives (the Randian substitute for corporations, as corporations are technically entities recognized by the state) also engage in ruthless competition and nasty collaboration, where former often results in bankruptcy of less powerful ones, while the latter causes temporary price spikes, until one breaks the equilibrium and often bringing the former, and thus ruthless and already powerful generally has an edge over (often) small but honest businesses. Although its economic growth is nominally larger than that of its rival, the Arche, very little of it goes to the majority, and standard of living isn't as great as free-market advocates believe it should be. Rather, poverty and underemployment is a chronic problem in Tropas Libre affiliated territories (and much of Randia in general), as the free-market advocates' defense of charity as a means to help out has never been enough to combat the problem.

While the Tropas Libre has some serious socioeconomic problems, Tropas Libre still has its strengths. While its ideologues and diplomats do little to improve Tropas Libre's image with the rest of Segmentum Asia, its most successful traders and smugglers either are less affected by ideological stereotyping or are tact enough to hide it. The Tropas Libre's merchants trade all across Segmentum Asia, even in the lands of the hated Arche Hellenike. Most Libertine merchants mostly respect the laws of the land, but will often err on the side of profit should the opportunity rise. The smugglers flout laws and sell whatever is in demand and no government pigs will stop them. The smugglers are particularly sought out by the Infantids, as it is a chance for the infantid bosses to incorporate fancy, useful guns into their arsenal, which the Tropas Libre has no shortage of. While the Lagikoi prefer the tried and tested Arche imports, sometimes they will choose the smugglers' imports when the need is dire or if the price is low enough.

Tropas Libre imports just about anything that its obscenely wealthy upper class desires: precious metals, jewelry, cosmetics, fashion, and premium foodstuffs are the choice items even though Tropas Libre has its own share of those. Its primary exports are also metals, trinkets, and weapons, as well as any illicit items the smugglers deliver to the decadent and the sybarite.

Cyan Sphere of Doom: Commoners' Legion[]

Tropas Libre is one of the two new playable factions to be introduced in Commoners' Legion alongside its sworn enemy, the Arche Hellenike. Tropas Libre has two mechanics: markets and invention. The invention mechanic is a resource and tech mechanic which includes the concept of invention material resource, produced by Junkyards, Supply Pads, and salvage. Basic troops do not consume the invention material resource, but customizing the units through the Inventors' Workshop consume the resource, as well as construction of more advanced structures. However, Tropas Libre is allowed a spectacular level of customizing, having the most diverse set of equipment available from the Inventors' Workshop.

The market is another important mechanic of the Tropas Libre: market is the primary logistical structure, and Tropas Libre logistics are improved drastically with the strategic placement of Freedom Shops. Whereas warehouse-type structure of the other factions are reliant on it being in a line of supply to function, the Freedom Shops can be restocked with payment of requisition and invention materials even when out of the standard line of supply. Likewise, since it needs only a payment of requisition and invention materials, Tropas Libre requires fewer investments on a strategic node, and if willing to take risks, temporarily extend the line of supply for a tactical move too risky to other factions. The market also favors minimal investments, and Tropas Libre unit production in each structure is limited to the most basic, advanced units unlocked with modular upgrades.

At a glance[]

Faction Color: Red and Green

Playstyle: Assault based on variable gear, although flexible in general due to the wide customization options for individual squads.

Preferred field of operation: None in particular, although infantry likes the urban realms given their greater access to anti-cover weapons.

Strengths: A strong set of shared upgrades created from the Inventors' Workshop, fairly cheap basic infantry, modularity reduces cost of training a few type of units, strong ranged combat.

Weakness: High cost of diversification, low-tier units are fragile, lack of universal upgrades which translates into difficulty preparing troops for late game
