Territorial Independence Army (Unaccented Greek: Χωρικος Στρατος Ελευθερων, lit. Land-bound army of the free men), is a Lagic organization created by Areus Megas since G2041. It is the primary military force of the Lagikoi of Polysiton although not all Lagikoi poleis belong there, and it is part of the Polysitonian Eleutheroi alongside the human colonists of the Posterity of The Sentinels.

Organization[]

The Territorial Independence Army operates in a very similar fashion to many of the Greek alliances, such as the League of Corinth in which member poleis supply troops and supplies as directed in a council, amount determined by its size and strength. The Territorial Independence Army is headed by the Strategos Autokrator, a position filled by its founder Areus Megas, backed and advised by the Synhedrion whose main meeting hall is located in Phovellis.

The Synhedrion is a bicarmeral organization, having a lower house, the Bouletai based on population (although not necessarily proportional to it), as well as an upper house, the Dikaion based on fixed representation, having 2 representatives per polis. As for the Bouletai

Polis Representatives Rough Real-Life Equivalent
Phovellis 14 Athenai
Seleon 8 Sparte
Rhakotis 13 Alexandreia
Argyria 5 Phokis
Telemantros 11 Syrakousai
Bylazora 3
Hydropolis 6
Berenikaia 11 Amphipolis
Halphiai 4

Heliopolis 7 Delphoi
Naupaktos 6 Korinthos
Emporion 8 Emporion

However, there are independent Lagikoi poleis that have allied themselves the Territorial Independence Army, choosing independence from the Synhedrion but still paying its dues in exchange for protection. One such independent faction is the Rhakotean Nomarchy.

Military Hardware[]

The lack of natural enemies such as the Infantids hindered Lagikoi advancement in military technology. As such, the Lagikoi small arms are decidedly inferior to those of the human nations of Tmere Asia. However, the Lagikoi were not clueless in the field, as they had some experience in weapon engineering thanks to the need created by the Pachydermic War. Thanks to that, while Lagikoi weapons are inferior, the Lagikoi still have a reliable source of small arms, artillery and vehicles which were further advanced by the need generated in the First Lampardian War which served to refine the crude state of Lagikoi military hardware. As a result, their weapons are in parity with the Lagikanthropoi, although their heavy weapon platform isn't as good as the Lagikanthropoi Sphatamaka Canbon yet.

What the Lagikoi lack in firepower and precision they make up for it in mobility and durability. The Lagikoi were keen on maximizing effectiveness due to their physiology, and their already respectable foundation in machinery gave them a great head start in the vehicle department. Their hardware is sturdy yet easy to manufacture and maintain, most iconically represented by the Kyriakos Proteros which are outdated when compared to Gaian vehicles such as the Theros/Poneus but still serviceable. While their grasp of robotics is respectable, their sensors and calibration know-hows are not yet at the level of the Gaians which makes Lagikoi vehicles one-on-one less effective than those of the Gaians, particularly Arche Hellenike. However, the Lagikoi efficiency and cunning compensates for this, as the Lagikoi vehicles are easily replaced and repaired, and the Lagikoi are clever in their usage of weapons making them a deceptively strong opponent.

In addition, TIA grows stronger with the level of mechanization: motorized units in the form of the Hippeis are very effective at harassing enemies or hitting their weak points, and although TIA MBTs are generally weaker than those of the human civilizations, TIA MBTs are cheaper, and in the case of Kyriakos Hysteros, flexible on top given its modular system. Most importantly, TIA most actively utilizes the Lagikoi mastery of production robotics, and thus they possess mobile manufacturing centers that can replenish munitions in the field with sufficient raw materials, made readily available by the presence of Areios crystals.

Appearance in Games[]

Cyan Sphere of Doom: Galactic War and Imperium Novum[]

Territorial Independence Army is one of the 3 playable factions along with Posterity of the Sentinels and the Evil Baby Corporation. TIA fills the role of the balanced army, having a mix of diverse infantry and a good set of vehicles. The later infantries are quite specialized, having good abilities to support the army, but not to the extent of the Posterity support powers.

TIA's strength lies in cost-efficient vehicles and versatile infantry, both early and late game: the Kyriakos Proteros is able to beat the tanks of the other factions in a one-on-one fight, and the Katathorax was able to do it even faster. The TIA had plenty of anti-infantry capabilities as well, with the Volunteers more than a match for the EBC Pistoleers and the Belis Gun Tank could supplement the Volunteers to demolish infantry lines. The Ninjas' shuriken was lethal, and the Officers' guns were more effective than those of the Ethelontes. TIA was also not in a lack of speed either: While its main forces of infantry and Kyriakos was slow, the Belis Gun Tank and the Hovercycle Riders were fast moving units.

TIA is a slow, grinding faction: their infantries are basic but cost effective as are the vehicles (if not a bit specialized), and their Officer Spheres provide support for the TIA infantry while being fantastic all-rounders: not only do they heal nearby infantry, they may also summon artillery pieces especially good against vehicles but effective enough against infantry.

The TIA's weakness was the ability to strike at enemy base without getting close: their Posterity allies had the Missile Launch Pads which could launch deadly Chemical Missiles, while the Evil Baby Corporation had the ability to deploy ambush troops anywhere to cause mayhem. TIA had no answer to the other two, with its support power, Nationalism, simply being a rate of fire buff.

Cyan Sphere of Doom: Commoners' Legion[]

Territorial Independence Army is a returning faction in the Commoners' Legion along with the other two that were introduced in the predecessor.

The Territorial Independence Army nominally continues the role of the balanced army, having a variety of units with reasonable cost and reasonable quality. Like in the previous game, the Territorial Independence Army remains a technical and defensive faction: just as the Officer Spheres (pre-change) sported great active abilities, the TIA gets early access to equipment faster than the other factions, allowing the TIA to expand the capabilities of their durable infantry faster than their rivals.

The TIA is a patient faction, ill-suited to pierce the line with a decisive attack and instead better suited to whittling down their foes and pushing the line slowly but surely. TIA's main advantage is the cost-effectiveness of their weapons (especially their Kyriakos series), but the TIA lacks easily used heavy hitters to create cracks at a moment's notice.
